[ARCHIVED] Fire Victim Relief Efforts - Contact Information on Ways to Help!

Lewiston Fire Relief Fund: www.volunteermaine.org/disaster - The Lewiston Relief fund, administered by United Way of Androscoggin County, will be distributed to non-profit organizations working directly with fire victims. 100% of the Lewiston Fire Relief Fund will go directly toward meeting the needs of fire victims. (Donations can also be mailed to United Way of Androscoggin County, 66 Ash Street, P0 Box 888, Lewiston ME 04243-0888.)

Help Spread the Word: Solid Waste Punch Pass - Property owners & tenants within the "Public Priority Response Area" (See PDF) may obtain a special punch pass at the Lewiston Finance Department, City Hall, 27 Pine Street. Property owners and tenants need a picture ID, and if they are a tenant proof of residency in the targeted area, for example--a utility bill. The pass will waive tipping fees for materials disposed of at the Solid Waste Facility (424 River Road). This program will end on June 8, 2013. This is especially a good opportunity to rid locations of items that could render a potential fire hazard.

YWCA, 130 East Avenue, Lewiston: "Pick-up Station" for fire victims to get items that they might need, ranging from household items, toiletries, clothing, diapers, pillows, blankets, etc. The YWCA is currently maxed out on the donations that they can receive; is, however, accepting donations of diapers and baby formula

American Red Cross: Financial donations may be mailed to the American Red Cross, c/o Executive Director Jennifer Gaylord, 1180 Lisbon Street, Lewiston, ME 04240. Phone # 795-4004.

Loaves & Fishes of Sabattus - Has clothes, household goods, dishes, pots and pans, appliances, beds with bedding, furniture, etc. - ALL FREE. Call Ellie at 577-9364 for pick-up arrangements. (207) 523-2728.

LIFTING LEWISTON: Credit Unions Coming Together - Donations can be made at a number of area credit union locations, and all funds raised with go to the American Red Cross, United Valley Chapter. Participating credit unions include: Central Maine FCU, Community CU, Great Falls FCU, Lewiston Municipal FCU, Maine Family FCU, Monmouth FCU, Rainbow FCU, Sabattus Regional CU, Five County CU, Lisbon Community FCU, and Midcoast FCU.

COMING SOON: The YWCA will have an online donation link available due to its partnership with Northeast Bank to assist fire victims (stay tuned for link). Local businesses and non-profits will be collaborating with the YWCA to help disburse those funds.
