Available Community Programs
The Lewiston Police Department has many programs that are offered to the community.
Citizens Police Academy
The purpose of the Citizens Police Academy is to give members of the public a working knowledge of the Lewiston Police Department. We believe that an informed public is better able to make decisions about the Lewiston Police Department. If interested please view the Citizens Police Academy Application.
Drug Abuse Resistance Education & School Resource Officers
Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) has been going strong in Lewiston since 1990. The 17-week core curriculum is taught by a trained uniformed officer at the elementary schools. This works in conjunction with the School Resource Officers assigned at the Jr High & High School.
Project Lifesaver
The mission of Project Lifesaver is to provide timely response to save lives and reduce potential injury for adults and children who wander due to Alzheimer’s, autism, and other related conditions or disorders. See our Project Lifesaver flyer for more information.
Volunteers in Police Service
The purpose of the Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) program is for volunteers to assist their local law enforcement agencies in a wide range of roles and functions. Volunteers will help fill critical gaps in program support and provide essential technical expertise. Anyone interested in the VIPS program is invited to contact Cpl. Thomas Murphy, VIPS coordinator, at (207) 513-3001 Ext. 6371 or via email.
