LA CA$H Coalition - Creating Assets, Savings, and Hope

                                               CASH Logo
The Lewiston-Auburn CA$H Coalition is a group ofBright Idea Recognition community partners, of which the City of Lewiston has taken the lead, that strives to enhance individual/family self-sufficiency. The Coalition also promotes the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), a credit that is a real boost to household budgets.

In addition, since the 2004 tax season, the Coalition has facilitated the return of over $29 million in Federal/State tax refunds to the pockets of low-to-moderate-income workers within the Lewiston-Auburn area, connected residents with asset-building opportunities, and prepared/e-filed Federal/State tax returns absolutely free.  Tax preparation is done by IRS-certified volunteers.

NEW FOR 2017 TAX SEASON
The IRS is reminding taxpayers that a new law requires the IRS to hold refunds claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) until February 15th.  THIS APPLIES TO THE ENTIRE REFUND.  The IRS also wants taxpayers to be aware that it will take several days for these refunds to be released and processed through financial institutions.  Factoring in weekends and the Presidents Day holiday, the IRS cautions that many impacted taxpayers may not have actual access to their refunds until the week of February 27, 2017.  This helps ensure that taxpayers receive the refund they are owed by giving the IRS more time to help detect and prevent fraud.
